This is why its so neat that Richard does these interviews. You def know your crime fiction and what makes it breathe. I like what you say about reality vs art. How selfishness is at the root of all crimes just in various degrees. Your Agatha Christie comment made me laugh out loud, along with your comment about guns cool . Very funny. And The Shield was absolutely fantastic. So much information here. I will be tagging this to come back and read again. I love to read various genres of crime. But writing it is new to me. Id buy Ellroy as a conservative, maybe, someday in a Grand Theft Auto kind of way. Right on the money with the movie as short story. I agree, with few exceptions, To Kill A Mockingbird for example. I heard Ellroy say that the movie LA Confidential was composed of four major novels and about a hundred main characters boiled down to four mains and a short story motif. He was in awe of that. Blew me away with the movement and style comment. So true. You e right about Pulp Fiction being the best adaptation of a story The Dutchman never did. Justifieds up there too. I guess it is a two way street but I hope someone is counting the sales, somewhere!I agree, Keishon, that other authors eg Slaughter, who has got worse over the years at this are more gratuitous pain-dwelling than Nesbo. However, I think Nesbo is far more talented as a writer than many of these authors so it is a pity that he seems to enjoy these nasty bits or maybe it is just me as it does not seem to bother the vast majority of his readers. <<< menej
